Spacer Couplings

Spacer couplings are a type of flexible coupling used to connect two shafts in rotating machinery. They consist of three main components: two metal hubs and a spacer element.

The metal hubs are attached to the ends of the shafts to be connected. Each hub typically has internal splines, keyways, or other means of attachment to secure it firmly to the shaft. The hubs are designed to transmit torque from one shaft to the other.

The spacer element, often made of steel or aluminum, is placed between the two hubs. It serves to maintain a specific distance between the shafts and provides flexibility to accommodate misalignment. The spacer can be solid or split, depending on the coupling design.

Spacer couplings are known for their versatility and ability to handle large misalignments, including parallel, angular, and axial misalignment. They can also compensate for shaft end float or axial movement.

These couplings are commonly used in various industrial applications, including pumps, compressors, turbines, and gearboxes, where precise alignment and reliable torque transmission are essential. They are valued for their robust construction, high torque capacity, and ability to withstand harsh operating conditions.

Spacer couplings are available in different sizes and configurations to suit a wide range of shaft diameters and power requirements. They offer a reliable and cost-effective solution for connecting shafts in rotating machinery while minimizing the risk of equipment damage due to misalignment.
